Hatchet Book Cover: Revisited

i had a feeling this moment would come. the moment when i see something else i could have done to a “finished” piece to make it better. i dream of the day when shit like this doesnt happen and i just get it right the first time.

anyways, i was looking at the hatchet book cover i did a while back and something bugged me about it.. i pointed my finger at the type. it was just too… clean. the book has nothing to do with cleanliness and the cover had nothing but textures. luckily i had the photoshop file still saved (i usually only save the jpeg) so i went back in with one of my favorite photoshop brushes and erased my way to a rough-edged title. what do you think??

Mixin’ it Up

these paintings are about a year old. they are mixed media paintings that were done for an assignment. the figure drawings themselves were done from life.

Mission: Photoshop

ive had adobe photoshop for quite some time now. i started off with cs3 and upgraded to cs5 recently. unfortunately i have no hard experience with painting in photoshop. i try to stay away from the digital look and try to keep it looking traditional; this is where the challenge lies. in order to get a natural look you need to experiment with custom brushes. i have yet to find a custom brush that closely represents a natural hair bristle brush :( anyways, practice makes perfect and here is an honest try. i did this painting in an hour. i feel its good to time yourself so you try to focus on the big shapes and values.

The Lemon: Part I

so the last couple of days have been full of trial and error. i been painting this aluminum water bottle thing and i have finally reached an understanding of its form (as you can see in this image below :) unfortunately i cannot say the same about the poor little lemon. now the form of the bottle was easy to convey this time around (using horizontal brush strokes instead of the quicker vertical strokes) but i cant yet grasp the form of the lemon. the colors are somewhat satisfactory but i was having trouble figuring out which direction to lay my brush strokes down. also, i read this years edition of “Artist’s and Graphic Designer’s Market” and it made me realize that i cant lose my individuality. so, the grammar, vocabulary, and even spelling in my posts will most likely not be 100% correct, but, its all me :)

I Hope This is a Good Start

Hi to anyone whos reading this. I wana start by saying that i’m totally new to blogging and almost all social networking as a whole. I just recently reactivated my Facebook profile and have yet to explore other sites like Twitter, Instagram, and even Facebooks new layout. Still, I’m kinda looking forward to doing all of this because its all being done to share some of my random thoughts and artwork with the people who care enough about it. anyways i think thats enough jibber jabber for now. i will be posting some artwork soon. i just wana get situated with all the social networking frenzy that i seem to be oblivious to. until then, my artwork can be seen at
